My home has been a place for me for witnessing many broken hearts, both literally and metaphorically. My younger brother had died due to congenital heart disease followed by the sudden demise of my grandfather, father and uncle due to heart failure. According to the World Health Organization, family members like mine are not alone; an estimated 17.3 million people are affected with cardiovascular disease. While decades of research have identified therapies (such as beta-blockers) to treat symptoms of heart diseases, none are curative.

All these have made me to ask the questions “Why and what are the reasons that lead to heart failure and how can we cure it? The search for answers to these questions and my family history with heart disease are constant sources of my motivation for pursuing a passionate research journey in cardiovascular biology
