I obtained a Bachelors degree in Microbiology from MES Garware College in 2001. I got more interested in Eukaryotes therefore pursued (and completed) a Masters degree in Zoology till 2003 from the University of Pune. There I got interested in how long DNA molecules are compacted into small volumes inside the nucleus and in addition to this I learnt about Epigenetics and the amazing level of complexity it provides to the dynamic structure and function of the eukaryotic nucleus.Combining both these areas of my interest I pursued a PhD trying to understand the epigenetic signatures on the inactive X chromosome. I was awarded my PhD degree in 2010 from the University of Pune.I then spent one year abroad as a post doctoral fellow stuyding the evolution of X chromosome inactivation by studying the inactivation status of X linked genes in a variety of mammalian species in the lab of Dr.Laura Carrel at the Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine USA.
